Portslade traveller camp set for eviction - Sussex

From the Argus

A court notice is due to be issued on a Traveller encampment today.

The unauthorised site was set up on a playing field off Mile Oak Gardens, near the boundary of Portslade and Southwick, last month.

The lessee of the land, Portslade Aldridge Community Academy, has asked Brighton and Hove City Council to help it secure a court notice to evict the group.

A spokeswoman for the local authority said it is due to be issued today.

It comes after a raft of complaints from locals about the impact the encampment has had on their community.

One neighbour contacted The Argus and said eggs had been thrown at his house.

Another said the track up to the playing field was covered in human excrement.

Bob Carden, who represents North Portslade on Brighton and Hove City Council, said he had received dozens of complaints from locals.

He added one reported a set of goalposts belonging to Mile Oak Wanderers football club had been broken after youngsters swung on them.

All these incidents have been reported to the police.
